Cooperative Extension & Outreach
What is Extension?
The idea behind extension is to extend practical, relevant, research-based information to the community. This is one of the three core purposes of Land Grant universities across the nation, along with agriculture and natural resources-related research and academic instruction. The cooperative extension system among agricultural colleges in the United States was created by the Smith-Lever Act of 1914.
The needs and concerns of the citizens of Guam and the broader Micronesian region and trends in consumer practices are what drive UOG's extension work. Extension programs and projects at the University of Guam focus on six issues of critical importance in the region.

Our extension agents develop non-formal workshops, group and one-on-one trainings, self-education materials, and services to help community members make informed decisions and live healthy, productive, and sustainable lives.

Adults of all ages are invited to a six-class series at UOG on embracing aging and cooking healthy meals.
Guam's first AgrAbility conference focused on solutions to limitations and disabilities in farming.
Join the University of Guam's upcoming workshop on Nov. 1 to learn sustainable and pesticide-free management techniques for hemp crops. Featuring experts Roy Cheng and Evelyn Kuo from Taiwan's ITRI, this event will cover holistic pest management strategies and innovations in microbial cultivation that can benefit Guam's agricultural community.
Join the University of Guam's "Let's Cook" workshop series in November to learn how to add nutritious twists to local favorites like titiyas and tinaktak. Led by Dr. Tanisha Aflague, these classes focus on boosting fiber, calcium, and reducing sodium, fats, and added sugars in everyday recipes.
This October, Guam and the Micronesian region will be introduced to "AgrAbility" -- a USDA initiative to help farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers succeed by overcoming limitations and disabilities.
